These members of the class of 2010 come from various area High Schools. Soon, they will have special offers to hand out to their friends, so if you like my work, find one of them and ask for a card and call for your appointment.

If you can’t find a student representative from your school, call me or message me here on Facebook, and I would love for you to become a spokesmodel! I’ll forward you the requirements on how to proceed.

Silly Smiles

February 3rd, 2009

We at Karen Anderson Designs are excited to be a part of the second annual Silly Smiles for Sammy fundraiser.   Silly Smiles was started in honor of Sammy Rogers, a wonderful 6-year-old boy who was diagnosed with FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) when he was 2 years old. This autoimmune disorder, along with Nephrotic Syndrome, causes damage to the filtering components of the kidneys.  These disorders affecting the kidneys can have a staggering impact on the lives of those caught in their wake.

Here is how the fundraiser works… for a $40 donation to Silly Smiles, we will take individual pictures of you (and your family) making funny faces.  With this, we will make a montage of 9 images on an 8×10 print.   Kids (and adults alike) love these sessions as they are a lot of fun.   100% of this initial donation goes straight to Silly Smiles.   For more information about Silly Smiles, go to http://www.sillysmiles.org.

We will be promoting this as well as taking appointments. at the February Gallery Hop, this coming Friday, February 6th.   The Fundraiser will take place Friday, March 6 (during the Gallery Hop), and also on Saturday, March 7th.  Call now to reserve your time on either of these days.

Imaging USA

January 19th, 2009

Karen and I got back on Wednesday from our trip to Arizona, where we attended Imaging USA (the really big national photography conference).    We first drove up to Sedona for a couple days to relax, and get some pictures of mountains in various stages of light (sunrise, sunset, mid-day, etc).

Anyway, at the conference, on monday night, we had the chance to hear Anne Geddes talk.   You know Anne Geddes… the one that takes pictures of babies wrapped up in flowers, dressed up as bugs, or vegetables.    Those pictures aren’t really my thing, but every time a new image popped up on the screen, you would hear the moms in the crowd give a collective “Aaawwwww”.   It was a pretty good program.

On Tuesday afternoon, Karen and I got back on the tram (or light rail system… tram is shorter to type) to head back to the room to get ready for the PPA awards ceremony.    At the stop after we get on, one of our fellow photographers says , “Hey… isn’t that Anne Geddes!”    He did say it relatively quietly, as not to draw extra attention to her and her family that were with her.     Anne Geddes, one of the most well known photographers of our time, riding the tram like everybody else.   That’s when it hit me… That’s so cool.   There are so many people that could identify Anne’s photography, yet she was still anonymous enough to be able to ride the tram in Phoenix.    Isn’t that kinda what we should all strive for?   We want our work to be recognizable… to leave our mark in the world we live in.   But yet, we don’t do it for the attention, we do it because that’s what we love to do.
